The MacLab

Technology is integrated into the classroom curriculum. Students in grades Pre-K to 3 visit the MacLab once a week for 30 minutes to work on various projects, learn keyboarding skills and word processing.
State-of-the-Art Technolgy in our MacLab includes Flat Panel 20” iMacs with the newest versions of Nationally Ranked Software for all subject areas.
Computers are Fun!

Our curriculum follows the National Educational Technology Standards for each grade level. Technological Awareness, Keyboarding, and Drawing/Graphics are covered at all grade levels, Pre-K through 6th.

Pre-K and Kindergarten:

In our weekly computer class, the children are introduced to the ‘FUN’damentals of technology. We use excellent, age-appropriate software that helps the children learn to recognize uppercase and lowercase letters. We also play computer ‘games’ with educational software. Bailey’s BookHouse, Milly’s MathHouse, Sammy’s ScienceHouse and Trudy’s TimeHouse help teach the children basic menu options in curriculum based subject areas. The children are learning many of the special terms that we call computer language. The best part of computer class is the freedom that the students have to explore and manipulate the tools independently. They print their own drawings and greeting cards. We have loads of fun while learning a basic introduction to computers.

Computer Class for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grades

In our weekly computer class, the students learn early keyboarding skills. We use excellent, age-appropriate software that helps the children learn where important keys are located on the keyboard. We also play computer ‘games’ with educational software. KidPix helps teach by introducing simple word processing and drawing applications and how to manipulate tools for producing a multimedia slide show. Students learn computer language terms and identify the parts of the computer system. We explore the Internet in order to connect globally and research all subject areas. We have fun learning in computer class.

Computer Class for 4th, 5th, and 6th Grades

In our weekly computer class, the students learn keyboarding skills. We use excellent, age-appropriate software that helps the children monitor how fast and accurately they type. The program is fun and keeps the students interested and motivated to continue improving. The students use Microsoft Word as a word processing tool for any assignments from all subject areas. The Internet is explored for research and global communication. We are emailing same-age peers via the award winning ePals Program to Canada and Australia. Each student builds their own web page on our Holy Nativity School website -- Check it out!
