Now a word from Mrs. Frerichs...
My philosophy of teaching is largely a reflection of my philosophy of living. I believe that every day we are both teachers and learners. Our lives can be enriched by our experiences, if we approach and accept our experiences with open hearts and minds.
I believe our attitudes either add or prevent an immeasurable amount of our success in life. As pre-kindergarten sets the stage for future feelings towards school and education, it is imperative to create a nurturing and loving environment where exploration, discovery and investigation can take place.
I view each student as an individual and honor different learning styles, abilities and personalities with sensitivity and respect. Multiple intelligences and learning modalities will be considered in all learning and instruction that takes place inside our classroom.
I believe that the interaction between teaching and learning is an intricate one. As a teacher, I see myself as a facilitator of learning. I set the stage for learning by creating an opportunistic, stimulating and creative environment.
As an eclectic, I share many views in the art of pedagogy. Much of my philosophy has been developed through studying and practicing Constructivism, as well as Montessori and Orton-Gillingham approaches. Emphasis on thinking, understanding, reasoning, and applying knowledge are all common denominators in my teaching theory and practice.
As a proud “mother” of twenty four-year-olds I am happy to say we have a beautiful pre-kindergarten family this year. This is a big year for our "family" as we experience, discover and explore so many new things.
Not only do the children develop core knowledge in regards to academics but they learn how to problem solve and be self-reliant. As the children leave "parallel play" and begin interacting more regularly with peers their social skills begin to develop. The children start to share more readily with others and take responsibility for their words and actions. On top of all this and of course much more, they are at school full time - five days a week, eighty hours a day! Like I said, this is a BIG year for our Pre-K family!
But not to worry because we love learning! Some of the Pre-K kiddos have even been known to beg, “Please Mrs. Frerichs, can I stay at school? I don’t want to go home yet!”
