  • Keiki 3's

Keiki 3’s children learn about the world through observation, experimentation, and hands-on activities.  Classroom work is centered on the interests of the child and provides students with activities structured for optimum learning in areas such as language, math, science, social studies, art, music, and physical education.  Daily schedule and classroom routines promote developing socio-emotional skills and independence.
  • Pre-Kindergarten

The Pre-Kindergarten class uses an integrated curriculum encompassing all subject areas.  Process, rather than product, is the primary focus.  A wide range of content areas are presented through the use of daily routines and procedures, themes, and topics (such as holidays or conservation).

Independent learning centers are an integral part of the classroom environment.  Centers are made available through which children may explore a variety of materials and develop, practice, and master different skills on their own.  At various times, these areas include:  a writing center, a science center, a math center, a block area, a library center, a dress-up/dramatic play area, an art center, and a sand/water table.  Teacher-directed centers, including small and large group lessons, are also important.
  • Kindergarten

Children learn by doing.  The child-centered Kindergarten classroom encourages students to take an active role in their education by participating in meaningful activities, working cooperatively with classmates, and interacting appropriately with materials.  Children are expected to work to the best of their ability and to help one another as they learn, necessitating conversation and movement about the room at appropriate times.  Every child is expected to function with limited teacher supervision:  observing rules, following directions, and taking responsibility.  Boundaries are well-established and expectations clearly articulated, allowing children to freely and safely explore, investigate, question, practice, and engage in teacher-directed and student-selected activities.
