The HNS Way

STUDENT LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Our HNS students have multiple opportunities to be active and involved members of their community.  Book Buddies is the long-standing mentorship tradition at HNS.  It fosters important bonds between our older and younger students.  Book buddies read, picnic, play, go on field trips together, and more!  Students in fourth through sixth grade participate in Student Council where they lead the school with the talent show, activity days, spirit week and other school culture building activities.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

These time-honored traditions provide all students with opportunities to perform and to celebrate our Episcopal identity and our connection to Hawai‘i. Special Events such as Movie Night, Bingo, Grandparents Day, Advent, and May Day are opportunities for families, parishioners, neighbors, and friends of HNS to gather throughout the year.  These traditions create the strong sense of community within our neighborhood school.

HAWK ATHLETICS

Our HNS Hawks teams exhibit character, heart, and excellence. Students in 4th-6th grade are welcomed to be a part of our Hawks basketball and volleyball teams via the CSAL (Christian Schools Athletic League).

HNS 6th Grade Graduates & Beyond

HNS provides a complete elementary school experience and preparation for middle school. The sixth grade year at HNS deliberately prepares students to competently and confidently begin middle school. Graduates depart HNS with academic and leadership experiences that stretch them and provide a genuine understanding of themselves as learners and members of a community.

How do we prepare our students for the transition to 7th grade?
Our program is designed for Keiki 3s through Grade Six. We build a home/school partnership with regular communication. We offer a wide range of specialist classes, solid curricular foundation, independence and character building experiences such as experiential learning and leadership opportunities.  Specifically during the 6th grade year we offer SSAT prep, mock interviews, and personalized leadership opportunities. We write individual letters of recommendation for each child.

Where do our graduates go after Holy Nativity?
Graduates from 6th grade over the last twenty years have attended the following schools for grade seven: Punahou (56), Mid-Pacific Institute (56), Iolani (28), La Pietra (17), Kamehameha (14), Maryknoll (11), Star of the Sea (9), St. Louis School (3), Assets (2), Damien (2), Sacred Hearts Academy (2), Hawaii Baptist Academy (1), Hawaii Preparatory Academy (1), Le Jardin (1), Other [Public, Mainland, International, Home School] (22)
