Ho‘ike: May Day at HNS

Ho‘ike 2023: Save the Date

Since 1950, Holy Nativity School has celebrated May Day, as a way for students to learn about Hawaiian music, dance, culture and history.

Our Holy Nativity community is welcome to join us for our 2023 Hoʻike at Holy Nativity School on May 12th, 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. in the courtyard followed by a lū`au celebration.

The theme for this year's Ho‘ike is Kaleleonālani.

Led by Kumu Blaine and Kumu Opua, the children will experience the Victorian Era during the life of Queen Emma with a live portrayal of the queen herself, who will preside over the celebrations as we formally create a Royal Ball in her honor.

Royal Gifts in the form of lei, hula and mele, will be presented to the queen in this yearʻs Ho‘ike 2023 - KALELEONĀLANI!

Here's the Scoop

Here's the scoop for Ho‘ike! Mark your calendars for Friday May 12th, at 8:30am.

This event is open to everyone in our Holy Nativity community - so bring family, friends and loved ones to our incredible campus.   Seating is limited, and is first come, first served.  All guests should enter through the church gates and find seating in the courtyard under the tent.

Parking will be on Osco Field, and attendants will be on site to assist with parking.

School is dismissed immediately after Ho‘ike.  No after care is available that day.

Join us for a lu‘au immediately following Ho‘ike.  Enjoy ‘ono lunch from Haili's Hawaiian Foods, and fellowship on our PreK lanai and playground. We'll have Laulau + Kalua combo plates (laulau, kalua pig, rice, rice, pipikaula, sweet potato, pineapple and haupia) and keiki portioned Chicken Long Rice bowls (chicken long rice, rice, and haupia). Bring your own blankets, chairs, etc. to picnic. Families must supervise their children on the playground.

Purchase lu‘au tickets today!

Donations and Volunteer Opportunities

It takes a village to magically transform our campus for Ho‘ike! Join us in preparing for one of the best days of the year at Holy Nativity School.  We need donations of tropical greenery and flowers, plus help in creating kahili and decorating our campus.

It's a wonderful opportunity for fellowship on campus as we work together to prepare for Ho‘ike!
